Qualifications

• Registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario.
• Ryerson University – Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering

Experience

Mr. Groot is a mechanical engineer with twelve years experience in design & manufacturing in the consulting, aerospace and elevator industries. He has been involved in all aspects of the design-build process from prototype design to installation and troubleshooting as well as liaison and technical writing. He has worked for two elevator companies, one with many national and international contracts and the other focused primarily on the Greater Toronto Area. Mr. Groot has elevator related experience in the following capacities:

• Cab, interior and fixture design
• Elevator and machine room layout
• Fabrication and assembly of elevator cabs and quality control
• Calculations and ensuring conformance with B44 Safety Code for Elevators, Canadian Electrical Code, Elevating Devices Act and Ontario Building Code
• Completion of submission forms to the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (formerly Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations)
• Coordination of material delivery between suppliers and job sites

Mr. Groot has played major roles in the development, design, manufacture, assembly and quality control of numerous vertical transportation systems for projects in Toronto, Western Canada and Malaysia. He has also been involved in the refurbishments of elevator cabs for the Metro Toronto Housing Authority (MTHA), TD Bank, Queens Park, CN Tower and numerous other projects and has also worked on new elevator installations for the TTC, Go Transit and new developments in Malaysia.

At Solucore Inc., Mr. Groot is responsible for overall inspections and supervision of projects. He ensures all policies and procedures are followed, performs maintenance inspections, technical audits, reserve fund studies and peer review audits. He is also responsible for stipulating specifications for modernizations, maintenance contracts, repairs, construction and demolition as well as co-ordinating and monitoring all work.
